How to Enable Windows 7 GodMode.

Word has traveled around the Internet about there being a GodMode in Windows 7. GodMode enables a number of features in Windows in single easy to access folders without having to navigate to multiple screens and Control Panel options.   There is no real cloak-n-dagger about the GodMode.

Windows has a set of certain folders which are identified by unique strings referred to as CLSID or Windows Class Identifiers. These folders can be accessed by using the CLSID identifier codes that Windows assigns to each individual folder in the Windows Registry. If you know the codes, you can launch these with ease. In short, GodMode are nothing more than a series of developer shortcuts built into Windows 7 & Vista, that enable easy access to certain settings and information about the operating system. (By the way, these have been around since Window 95 and 98 when we used this ability to create menu roll-outs on the Start Panel for easier navigation. They became part of the standard setup in Windows XP. To use a GodMode simply;

(Warning do this at your own risk! This is an unsupported Windows feature and could be broken by an update at anytime. I.e. Don't blame me if it does not work :-)

  • Create a new folder.

  • Rename the folder to (Cut and paste):       GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}  

  • You can change the text “GodMode”, but the period and all following code are essential).

  • The folder icon will change to a control panel icon, then simply double click the icon to open the GodMode window:
